Faulty Affiliates
What with the strike that unfortunately left the unnamedsoutherncaliforniasupermarket without employees, the two managers(who are not union and therefore did not strike) had to hire all us newbies. This has been my first work environment ever and it’s been pretty much what I expected. There’s my buddies “Deli girl”, “Bakery girl”, “hyper ageless chick” and “tall normal boy”. And “enthusiastic girl” has befriended me although she is a bit too … dense for me to handle for long periods of time.
Mainly I was going to talk about the managers, “Mumbly” and “Moody”. No one, and I mean no one, can ever understand what Mumbly is saying. There is no accent or impediments or anything you might expect- his volume is just far too low. As if he was speaking thru a wired shut jaw and he always smiles expectantly, with wide eyes and raised eyebrows, as you fumble for what in the world he actually said.
Moody is, well, Moody. He is one of those falsely cheery people who have thinly cloaked mood swings. Sometimes he really does seem lighthearted and fun. But more often he seems stressed and angry beneath an unconvincingly grinning exterior. Exasperation is his middle name. Or it should have been. And his constant discontent makes me too scared to approach him most times.
