Busy living, laughing, loving- Life.

Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. - Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864)

So maybe I haven't really been doing much- especially considering the whirlwind of adventure from a few weeks ago which I have still failed to post about- but I've been having a good time.

I bought 18 books in the past 2 weeks. I want to buy more. I've read 3 of them so far, but I'm sidetracked and reading one that Katie lent me for right now. I am trying to find a job down here. Trying to find an apartment.

I went to Ridgecrest last weekend. 3 hours on the way up, and it felt like much less. Richard took me and Katie. The trip involved a Gap scarf that reminded me of the nightmare Before Christmas, a Red & Black feather boa, amazing music and multiple bottles of bubbles.

When we got there, Mari's house being the "there" we had got to, I met Jason and Tyler. Jason is another Navy boy, and Tyler is Tony's fairy friend from McDonalds. Perhaps I shouldn't call him that. Maybe it's only okay when Katie says it, but I can't resist the alliteration.

So insert a romping weekend, slightly distorted by the blue cloud of smoke which apparently envelops anyone in the navy since everyone in the military (and tony) smokes like california in fire season. There were Kittens and bunnies and puppies and generally cute animals of assorted kinds. I also met a Miss Sophia who is very pretty, and wore an abominably short dress. I wore the dress, not Sophia. She wore a sweet dress with a corset-type basis.

Speaking of the lady, she was there for the Dinner party. Mari and Richard (with assistance from Katieand Tony) threw together the entire event- from clearing out the dump that was Mari's back patio thing to cooking and setting the table elegantly- in less than an hour. If you had seen the spider and trash-ridden mess that was there and then seen the glorious aftermath then you might understand the magnanimity of it all. Not that they weren't getting something out of it too, but it was certianly a great bit of effort.

So there was the spaghetti dinner. Lit by tea candles and icicle lights 'round the perimiter, and on the decorative corner(a pile of trash they couldn't get rid of, covered by two old curtains and set with tea lights can look quite nice), and even used as a centerpiece. The food was from basic scratch, home-cooked and very good. red and white wine, which really did make it all taste nicer although a few of us hadn't the taste for it really. All was said and done around.... midnight? I'm not sure. The Navyies had a uniform inspection the next morning, so Chad woke me up to say goodbye at about 3 or 4 in the morning. The rest of us didn't leave until 830. We made good time, and soared over the lovely bumps in the road. So fun.

It was nice to have a leisurely weekend wth Chad and everyone. Without having to worry about when to be home and how badly I reeked of smoke. I hope to do it again soon, before Mari leaves and Chad moves back into the incredibly posh barracks(dudes, they're like, twice the side of a triple dorm room, but only for two people and there's a bathroom! a bathroom.) and Tonymoves down here.

There's more and such. But I don't feel like sorting out my memories right now. I hope my live balances out a little. Right now I'm in constant contact with Katie(call before her work at 12, emails back&forth until she leaves work, and a call afterwards.) and yet my other contacts have been waning.

Natsan, JJ, Fansanka, Jaqqucch, Turtle, Roberto, Banjj - I'm still around. I don't want to lose the friends I've managed to keep for so long- with the exception of Stacy there who I have not kept long but rather pursued shortly- just because I've come back into contact with some old interests and made some new ones. Je t'aime, ciaociao.

Two things stand like stone:

Kindness in another's trouble,

Courage in our own.
